Jun 25, 2026

The East West University Center for Research and Training (EWUCRT) hosted a vital research seminar addressing the underlying factors behind poor English language proficiency among undergraduate students, while proposing actionable remedial strategies to bridge the gap. The seminar was held on June 24, 2026, at the EWUCRT seminar room. The event was chaired by Professor Dr. Shams Rahman, Vice Chancellor of East West University (EWU).

The seminar commenced with an introductory speech by Professor Dr. Md. Sohel Rana, Director of EWUCRT, who welcomed the attendees and introduced the distinguished research team. The keynote presentation, titled "Unsatisfactory English Language Skills of Undergraduate Students of East West University: Exploring the Underlying Factors and Suggesting Remedial Measures," was jointly delivered by a diverse panel of five faculty members. The presenting team included Dr. Moriam Quadir (Professor, Department of English), Ms. Shamima Akter Shanta (Senior Lecturer, Department of English), Ms. Saifa Haque (Senior Lecturer, Department of English), Mr. Imran Jahan Digonto (Lecturer, Department of English), and Md. Aminul Islam Shazid (Lecturer, Department of Mathematical and Physical Sciences).

During the keynote segment, the presenters delivered a comprehensive analysis of the socioeconomic, psychological, and institutional factors that contribute to English language deficiencies among tertiary-level students. Moving beyond a simple diagnosis of the current challenges, the panel proposed a comprehensive range of strategic remedial measures to elevate student proficiency.

The research presentations were followed by a lively and vibrant question-and-answer session. Participating faculty members actively engaged with the speakers, sharing their own insights, academic experiences, and distinct perspectives on how to effectively improve language proficiency across the campus.

The event was also graced by the presence of Dr. Joy Samad, Member, Board of Trustees, Professor Dr. M. Ashik Mosaddik, Pro-Vice Chancellor of EWU, alongside faculty members, EWUCRT officials, and enthusiastic students. The seminar concluded with a formal vote of thanks from the chair, Professor Dr. Shams Rahman, who highly appreciated the research team for their rigorous study and thanked the audience for their constructive participation.
