East West University Launches 'Foreign Language Center' to Boost Employability and Global Connectivity

In a significant effort to enhance employment opportunities, global connectivity, cultural understanding, and language education, East West University (EWU) inaugurated the 'Foreign Language Center.' The opening ceremony took place on Thursday, July 9, 2026, in the university's 'Manzur Elahi' Auditorium. His Excellency Mr. Saida Shinichi, the Honorable Ambassador of Japan to Bangladesh, attended the occasion as the Chief Guest. In his address, Ambassador Shinichi praised the initiative, describing the launch of the Foreign Language Center as a timely step to prepare students for the global stage. He expressed optimism that such efforts would further strengthen the long-standing bond between Bangladesh and Japan. Additionally, the Ambassador thanked EWU for selecting Japanese as the first language curriculum offered by the center.
The program was chaired by Professor Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Chairperson of the EWU Board of Trustees and former Governor of Bangladesh Bank. In his concluding remarks, Dr. Farashuddin highlighted that EWU established this center in response to the Honorable Prime Minister's call for students to learn a third language. He emphasized that this initiative will enable students to transcend borders and position themselves as truly global graduates. Mr. Hedayatul Islam, Deputy Secretary of the Prime Minister's Office, attended the ceremony as Special Guest. He reaffirmed the government's commitment to supporting progressive educational advancements that contribute to building a skilled workforce.
Earlier, EWU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Shams Rahman delivered the welcome speech, greeting the distinguished guests, faculty, and students. He envisioned the Foreign Language Center as a vibrant hub for academic and cultural exchange, outlining its role in equipping students with the essential linguistic tools needed to excel in the global arena. The inaugural ceremony was attended by EWU faculty members and students, as well as members of the Japan Alumni Association of Bangladesh, officials from various government offices, and representatives from the Embassy of Japan.
