Department of Information Studies Arranges a Seminar on “The future of books and publishing in the Artificial Intelligence (AI) landscape”

The Department of Information Studies, East West University organized a seminar titled “The future of books and publishing in the Artificial Intelligence (AI) landscape” as a part of the celebration of the ‘World Book and Copyright Day’ on 23 April 2025 (Wednesday).  

A K M Sohel, Additional Secretary, Wing Chief, United Nations, Economic Relations Division of the Government of the Peoples Republic of Bangladesh graced the seminar as the Chief Guest.

Mahruk Mohiuddin, Managing Director of The University Press Limited (UPL) joined the  seminar as the Special Guest. The seminar was chaired by  Professor Dr. Dilara Begum, Chairperson, Department of Information Studies, East West University.

The seminar started with a welcome speech by Dr. Farzana Akhter, Dean, Faculty of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, East West University.

The chairpersons from different departments, faculty members, students, and information professionals attended the seminar.

The Chief guest of the seminar emphasized the importance of reading and encouraged the youth to read and learn moral values, connect with the past, and increase general knowledge. The special guest of the seminar Mahruk Mohiuddin recognized the power of books as a bridge between generations and across cultures.

The chair of the seminar Professor Dr. Dilara Begum highlighted the values of reading books and thanked all the participants for attending this seminar.

It is worth mentioning that World Book and Copyright Day was initiated by UNESCO and was officially observed from 1995.
