Department of English Welcomes Spring with “Spring in the Air 2026” at East West University

Feb 22, 2026

The Department of English in association with the Writing Centre organized “Spring in the Air 2026”, a vibrant celebration of creativity and colors that drew students, faculty members, and guests to a day-long festival on Tuesday, 17 February, 2026. The event showcased student talent across literature, visual arts and performance, and culminated in a prize-giving ceremony recognizing outstanding contributions.

The university’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Shams Rahman, opened the festival and toured the art exhibition, student stalls, and the slam poetry session, engaging with students and participants. The Treasurer, Air Cdre (Retd) Ishfaq Ilahi Choudhury, graced the cultural event and prize giving ceremony as the Chief Guest that followed the performances.

The program featured continuous student stalls and a painting exhibition at the department. A high-energy slam poetry session took place at the Writing Centre from 10:10 a.m. to 11:40 a.m. The afternoon cultural program, staged in the Razia Samad Lecture Gallery, presented a mix of music, dance and recitations performed by faculty members and students.

Highlights included the slam poetry showcase, which gave emerging poets an opportunity to perform original work before a lively audience across several other departments of the university; the painting exhibition that brought together submissions from undergraduate visual artists; and the student stalls, which offered handcrafted goods. The day closed with a prize-giving ceremony acknowledging standout performers and contributors to the event’s success.

“The event was designed to celebrate the creative energy on campus and to give students an inclusive platform to share their work,” said the Department’s organizing committee. Attendees and participants alike praised the festival’s welcoming atmosphere and the visible cross-departmental support that helped make the day successful.
