21st East West University Astro-Olympiad 2026 Concludes: 30 Pre-Trainees Selected for International Stage

The daylong national final round and prize-giving ceremony of the "21st East West University Astro-Olympiad 2026" concluded successfully on July 31, 2026, organized by the Bangladesh Astronomical Association in collaboration with the Ministry of Science and Technology. The final round was inaugurated on Friday morning at the East West University campus by Professor Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees and Founding Vice-Chancellor of East West University. Professor Dr. M. Ashik Mosaddik, Pro-Vice Chancellor of East West University, and Mashhurul Amin, Chairman of the Bangladesh Astronomical Association, also addressed the audience. Following the ceremony, 210 selected contestants from across the country participated in the national final exam across junior and senior categories. After the exam, the participants enjoyed two special shows at the planetarium of the National Museum of Science and Technology (Novotheatre).
The event concluded with a vibrant closing ceremony in the afternoon at the Novotheatre auditorium, where awards were handed over to the winners. A total of 30 students—15 from the junior group and 15 from the senior group—were awarded based on merit. These selected 30 pre-trainees will undergo intensive training sessions to prepare them to represent Bangladesh on the international Astro-Olympiad stage.
Md. Anwar Hossain, Secretary of the Ministry of Science and Technology, attended the award ceremony as the chief guest. Former Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen, Chairman of the Bangladesh Astronomical Association Mashhurul Amin, Pro-Vice Chancellor of East West University Professor Dr. M. Ashik Mosaddik, Director of Russian House in Dhaka Alexandra Khlevnoy, SPARRSO Chairman Md. Rashidul Islam, and Acting Director General of the National Museum of Science and Technology Md. Mizanur Rahman Bhuiyan were also present. The invited guests inspired the students to actively pursue space science and commended the initiative to spread scientific awareness among the youth. They congratulated the winners and expressed their gratitude to the organizers and partners. The day-long event concluded in a festive atmosphere, with East West University serving as the title sponsor.
