Social Innovation 1.0: Intra University Social Entrepreneurship Competition, 2021: Organized by EWU Sociology club


East West University Sociology Club has represented Social Innovation 1.0, Intra University Social Entrepreneurship Competition 2021 from 2nd October 2021 to 27th November 2021, which is a problem-solving & entrepreneurial competition that shoots out a social problem that needs to be solved with unique ideas & proper management of social business model. This was a platform prudently constructed by East West University Sociology Club to encourage and facilitate the student body of East West University is actively participating in dialogues revolving around real social issues.

Social Innovation 1.0, Intra university social entrepreneurship competition 2021 that was appointed into three rounds based on different breakthroughs faced in succeeding in social business. We had around 150+ individual registration & 32+ team registration. After tremendous rounds & challenging decisions, we had finally nominated 05 finalist team. In the first round 15 team were selected to battle for round 02.

There were different rounds in that competition:

Online screening: 

Teams with 3 members from East West University participated in this competition. Participants from different backgrounds/majors took place for the social innovation competition. The topic focused on educational disruption during pandemics, among underserved children will be given to the participants. After the registration participant team received an email on 28th August with detailed instructions on the Idea summary writing & submission process.

Round 1 - Online Case Cracking 

The online case provided to all participating teams would require teams to submit a 500–1000-word abstract summarizing the essence of their solution. Precise direction with the valid judgment criteria was mentioned in the case instructions. Participants was instructed to showcase their ideas & solution along with the social business model in a report. After detailed screening selected teams went further.

Workshop- Case Solving & Presentation 

The workshop held to discuss social business ideas, Entrepreneurship mindset and shed light upon existing social development organization’s activity pertinent locally and globally. During the workshop, the teams was briefed on the structure of the competition, introduced to the first round’s case. Additionally, the workshop was emphasizing the presentation skills & tips for presentations for a social business competition.

Round 2 – Semi-Final 

Teams proceeded to the second phase had to work upon the given case, preparing a solution to be presented to judges in the final round. Teams were evaluated based on the strength of the argument, Plans, feasibility, long-term goal & the quality of presentation content.

Grand Finale- Prize giving & closing ceremony 

Top teams from the previous rounds competed in the finale where they had to come up with policies and plans for their implementation. The teams presented the relevance, implementation, criteria, and possible outcomes of the policy in the relevant context. The judges provided feedback to each team on how they think their solutions can be improved. The disclosure & achievement of winners was celebrated throughout the grand finale event of Social Innovation 1.0, Intra university social entrepreneurship competition, 2021
