Department of Pharmacy Celebrates ‘Pharma Carnival 2024’: A Grand Celebration of Knowledge, Innovation and Solidarity

The Department of Pharmacy of East West University has organized a two-day long ‘Pharma Carnival 2024’ on December 3-4, 2024, at the EWU campus. This event was a resounding success, bringing together students, academics, alumni, and industry leaders to celebrate the vibrant world of pharmaceutical sciences. From groundbreaking research showcases to engaging seminar, exhibitions, competitions, and cultural festivities, the event reflected the passion and brilliance of the vibrant pharma community.
Highlights of the Event:
Inauguration: This session was graced by Dr. Khalilur Rahman, hon’ble High Representative (Adviser) on Rohingya Crisis and Priority Issues Affairs to Chief Adviser, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh and Founder Member, Board of Trustees, EWU as Chief Guest. Hon’ble Secretary to the Health Services Division, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Bangladesh, Mr. Md. Saidur Rahman, was present as the Special guest. Prof. Dr. Shams Rahman, Vice Chancellor, EWU attended the inaugural session as Guest of Honor. Prof. Dr. Md. Ashik Mosaddik, Pro VC, EWU, and Prof. Dr. Amirul Islam, Chairperson, Department of Pharmacy, EWU also shared their views on this occasion. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Chief Adviser and Founder Vice Chancellor of EWU chaired this session.
Exhibitions: Renowned organizations including top pharmaceutical companies, educational institutions, and cosmetic companies showcased their products and arranged interactive events through 37 stalls providing a unique opportunity for learning and networking.
Poster Presentation: Students of the Department of Pharmacy, EWU presented 40 posters on different topics related to pharmacy and healthcare.
Pharma Olympiad: More than 180 students participated in this highly competitive segment and 11 teams were selected through the preliminary screening. After several rounds of challenges, 3 teams reached the final. The active participation of our aspiring students, faculty members, and audience made this competition very spontaneous and lively.
Scientific Seminar: Dr. Raquibul Hasan, Associate Professor, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, College of Pharmacy, Mercer University, USA, presented a very interactive scientific seminar on ‘Statins beyond cholesterol reduction: Are statins antihypertensive agents?’
Skill Development: The skill development workshop conducted by vTutor empowered the students to understand the essence of professional development and career skills.
Panel Discussion: Esteemed industry professionals shared their valuable insights and experiences on ‘Future trends in pharmacy: Challenges and opportunities’, inspiring the next generation of pharma leaders to prepare themselves to adapt to the dynamic global trend.
3-Minute Thesis (3-MT) & Extempore Speech: These sessions provided a platform for the students to showcase their quick thinking, creativity, and communication skills in a competitive yet collaborative environment. After initial scrutiny, 9 students reached the final round of 3-MT, and 12 students contested against each other in the exciting extempore speech session.
Indoor Games: From thrilling board games to engaging team challenges, the two-day-long exciting series of indoor games brought the students together and encouraged friendly competition. The participants enjoyed every moment, creating lasting memories and strengthening their bonds in a vibrant and supportive environment.
Closing and Prize Giving Ceremony: Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of EWU, Professor Dr. Shams Rahman, graced this event as the Chief Guest, appreciating the sponsors and the top performers of the carnival’s different competitive segments.
Cultural Extravaganza: A lively celebration of art and culture was held, featuring colorful performances that highlighted the talent and diversity of the university community.
Alumni Reunion: A warm and nostalgic gathering of our beloved alumni strengthened the bonds of the ever-growing pharma family.
