Event Description

Our Bengal is blessed with six seasons. Each year, the country is adorned with different modes and colors of these seasons, namely – Grishmo (Summer), Borsha (Rain), Shorot (Autumn), Hemonto (late autumn), Sheet (Winter), and Bosonto (Spring). When the late autumn comes, it brings the feel of chilling winter accompanying with it.  Nobanno is the life of the late autumn.  It is one of the customary festivals that are celebrated in different phases of cultivation of the agricultural society of Bengal.  People of different castes, religions, and communities perform different rituals on the eve of Nobanno. This has been going on in the life of the people in Bengal from era to era. However, in this era of globalization, many rural festivals are on the verge of extinction. Therefore, to present the continuation of the cultural practices of our roots, East West University Sociology Club has organized an event entitled ‘Nobanner Ahwbane’ (The Calling of The Nobanno).  As the world is going through a pandemic situation, with upholding the new term of ‘New Normal’, all activities are done through online.  'Nobanner Ahwbane' is also celebrated online with everyone in East West University.
