National Policy Competition 2025 — East West University Chapter

The National Policy Competition 2025 was a part of a statewide effort by the Ministry of Youth and Sports. The theme for East West University was "Bangladesh's Graduation from LDC Status: Preparing to Harness Opportunities and Overcome Emerging Challenges." The competition brought together smart undergraduate teams that demonstrated they knew how to read and understand policies, develop practical solutions, and argue confidently in public.

On September 30, 2025, East West University hosted the institutional final of the National Policy Competition 2025. It was a productive day of lively discussion about the problems plaguing the well-being and growth of our country, and it brought forward strategic, evidence-based policy proposals to efficiently address them. The event had important guests and speakers who put the contest in the context of Bangladesh's policy priorities. Md. Farhan Faruqui (Faculty of Business Administration, EWU), Dr. A. K. Enamul Haque (Director General, BIDS), Md. Iqbal Hussain (Additional Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Sports), and Dr. Anisuzzaman Chowdhury (Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser, Ministry of Finance) all spoke. The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shams Rahman, led the meeting and underlined how important it is for young people to be involved in making policies.

Representing the Department of Economics: Team Beyond Borders, Team Strategy Loom, Team Typhoon, and Team Driptopod. These four teams advanced to the final round of the competition, where the judging panel chose Team Beyond Borders as the winner, Team Strategy Loom as the first runner-up, and Team Cohesion as the second runner-up after much deliberation. The winning team received BDT 45,000, and the first- and second-place teams received BDT 30,000 and BDT 15,000, respectively. These students highlighted the department's dedication to fostering its students' knowledge and values in economics to address social and economic challenges.
